The National Watch & Clock Museum is seeking support for its effort to complete a state-of-the-art collections care and storage facility.

This effort includes installing a modern collection storage system and physical changes to the storage area to protect the collection and make the collection care center more visible and accessible to visitors, scholars, and researchers.

This facility will enable the NAWCC to provide a flexible museum and archive-quality storage solution, increase the Museum’s ability to continue to acquire important objects and collections, ensure the safe and secure storage of the entire Museum collection (including items not on exhibit), increase collection visibility to our visitors, and permit the closer examination of objects under the direct supervision of the Museum Curator.

Library Storage Phase Completed

Installation of a specifically designed compact archive storage system was completed through funding raised during the For All Time 75th Anniversary Endowment & Capital Campaign Phase.

The Library & Research Center currently holds more than 30,000 items and increasingly makes more and more of those resources available online. It is the largest library in the world dedicated to the study of timekeeping and the only horological library in the world available to the public and complemented by a full-time professional staff. The technical and historical information found in the archives is indispensable to researchers, clock and watch makers, collectors, manufacturers, and scholars.  Because the Library & Research Center holds the only publicly available copies of countless specialized horological publications and documents from all eras and many parts of the world, it is a vital and indispensable link to preserving and disseminating this universal knowledge regarding time, timekeeping, and timekeepers.

The purposefully built storage system has been designed specifically for archive storage at the NAWCC. This design was conceived to ensure that it serves the needs of the NAWCC for years to come. The new system includes shelving and shelf openings, allowing the safe and secure storage of a variety of archival material. The new system will allow the archive staff to easily change shelf positions and the location of stored materials when needed, without the need of complicated tools or outside assistance.
